This is kind of a shitty place, huh.

[pause.]

What kind of person could influence everyone easiest? Not a farmer or a laborer, probably.

Well, if we are among the common folk, there are any number of organisations we could run here.

We'd have to provide a service that is essential.

A dealer of armaments or medical supplies, maybe?

..If the city is constantly besieged, there is any number of things we could do to gain influence rapidly.

Food, Medicine, Weapons and Armor, would all likely be in very high demand..

Yes. It doesn't seem like their army is based in Midtown, else I would say that would hold the most influence. But running an armory could be very influential.

That could work, yeah. Or, they said there were churches here... I bet a bunch of people in this kind of setting would go to something like that.

[seems kind of normal to me]

Both of those roles could hold a lot of influence in the right circumstances, but I agree they wouldn't hold the most.

True, but church holds no.. inherent, raw value, while goods do.

If things got really bad I have a feeling the church wouldn't come out so well..

The churches could hold a great deal of sway over the people, especially in hard times.

You think? I'd say the worse things get the more people would want to depend on some kind of deity.

If things slowly got worse, but what if everything suddenly went to hell?

The armory could also work, as Silver suggested. If they are constantly at war, their army would need to resupply quite frequently.

It's only a shame the army doesn't seem to be based here, or we could take them as our choice.

A church too..

Hmm..

I guess the difference is, do we want to be more essential if everything suddenly goes to hell, or be able to consolidate more political and social influence over the long term.

I would say that churches are essential too, for the people's wellbeing. I think we might be able to influence more with them; an armory could simply be requisitioned by the city in war times if they were contrary.

Would it? It says we've been handling things well for a long time.
