GULGALLANA & HENWEN

You find yourself in a grand throne room, with large, ornate thrones enough for your number to sit. Stringed puppets hang from the high ceiling, dressed and looking like the "citizens" of Ombrie. ...they're all faceless. The singular door that you walked through creaks shut at the beginning of the game.

The kingdom is in shambles. With the death of the most beloved king and your stepson not yet of crowning age, you alone must fight for the right to the throne. In your way stands your adoptive family members, who intend to take the crown for their own greed, though your stepson seems to be supporting you, as does his fiance. With the three of you working together, there's nothing that can stop you. But you must work quickly—these next few weeks are crucial to securing your kingdom.

Hm... There are some advantages to having the uncle-in-law's assistance, but at the same time, his goal will be to use us as a puppet to further his own agendas.

Mm! We may be a little lost on our own, but I bet there's a library or something. If we study hard instead, couldn't we do a lot better than he could?

There are two main problems, of course. The first, is a question of time: Do we have the time to research everything we need? The second is... We can assume that if he doesn't think we're going along with his plans, he's probably going to try to kill us. We'll have to handle that situation fairly diplomatically, and make him think we're supporting him even while we're double-checking his moves.

What sort of families do you two have?!

I don't have one but Zero talks about killing her sisters all the time and she says if I had a sister I'd want to kill her too!

It's less about my family, and more about the violent nature of succession disputes. It's distressingly common for relatives to kill each other over a throne, especially in a case like this, where someone who is apparently both a foreigner and wields no political influence to speak of winds up as the ruler. It's a recipe for disaster.

No! You would not, because I am practically your sister and there will be no killing in Henwen! No turning this nice princess game into a game about murder!

Clearly we should throw a party. A ball or something.

It is stupid, there's no denying that. Even if they were to chase after power by murdering everyone who would take it before them, there's no guarantee they'll be able to use it effectively. In essence, they're fighting over the dream of a power they likely don't even know how to use, but have been bred to believe that their birth gives them the right to it.

This is why there aren't a whole lot of monarchies around anymore, when it comes down to it.

The problem is setting up a party that doesn't end up seeming offensive, especially considering that someone just died...

Well, this kind of thing is outside my expertise. I'm not a good person when it comes to lifting the mood.

Maybe if she shows up here, you can teach her that it's bad.
