RULES
DIPLOMATS - Can CALL IN A FAVOUR from the Imperial Crown.
ROUND ONE
You are, of course, not the first foreigners to arrive on these shores. The United Empire has sent several ships and advance parties already, but the Gurkhani have been less than accepting of them. This time, however, it'll be different.
You've already commandeered an old base camp at the edge of the jungle, and the ship you came on has a wide array of carpentry, mining (including a few sticks of dynamite!), and construction tools, but very little supplies. There's a quarry not too far away, even.
You need to set to work improving the camp to defend it in case you are attacked. Currently, a few natives from a nearby village are watching you and your crew as you prepare.

Since there's a quarry nearby, we'll try to begin trading some of our excess mining tools for the supplies we lack as we get things set up. We'll also use this as an excuse to talk to them and get to know them.
If anyone attacks us directly, we'll intimidate them by threatening to eat them as we fight them off.

The people here seem to be a lot more okay with you than you'd been expecting -- a talk with the village's ruler should help to figure out why. Other than that, points of interest are the healer, a leper that the villagers consider to be possessed and lives on the outskirts, and some frenzied yelling coming from deeper in the jungle.

We will use the information we gained earlier from getting to know the people here to our advantage so that we can avoid offending them and leave a positive impression.

The leper tells a story of a lost temple, sunken deep beneath a lake not too far away that has great riches in it. He tried to take them for himself, but was stricken with the CURSE OF THE DEVAS.
The healer is using a combination of herbs and magic to heal warriors injured in skirmishes with the Gurkhani. He seems pleased with you, and says if you ever require healing or wish to learn the arts, he will be happy to provide it to you.
From the other villagers, you learn various tidbits about their culture. Nothing particularly important, but it helps you to endear yourselves to them.

In whatever free time we have until the next round, we will express earnest interest in and learn The Arts from the healer. If he could use some extra hands to help with random tasks we will try and assist in return for his kindness.

They are not sure if they can win, because while the natives far outnumber the ruling class, many may be scared to fight, initially. And in some parts, there are no issues with the emperor.
However, they feel that regardless, this is a fight they need to fight.

Since she asked for our help, we will have a discussion with her about what we can offer her. If she agrees to be good friends with The United Empire, we may be able to call in a favor and assist her somehow in her effort. For example, by helping arm her side with the Crown's assistance, and promising future support as friends once she's in control...
