VANARA

[you’re finally ushered off into doors that appear in the roots of Otto’s tree, leading to a small room with enough chairs for your team. There’s a large, cardboard box in the center of the table, with a small, leather bag full of gold coins next to it.

There’s some suspicious chirping coming from inside the box, however! Peeking inside, you’ll find a baby bird . . . on fire? Feel free to take it out and play with it, though! It’s fire won’t burn you.

Otto’s voice echoes into the room, sounding bored]

I’ve left a friend in your care today. Let’s see how well you manage.

Why would anyone give a bird milk?

[shrugs without taking his eyes off the flaming birdy.]

Maybe we should stick to... bugs and stuff.

I suppose we have an advantage.

Well, to a degree. I have no experience in taking care of fire birds...

We will require someone to regurgitate its food.

Um, sorry, what was that?

[surely he misheard her.]
anarchydemocracy: (oh singing night yeah!)

A phoenix should be similar to other avians in terms of biological maintenance, the same as how mammals are. At the very least, we should be able to keep it alive.
unquailified: (Poof you’re a fish)

Let's try insects first. If he doesn't like those, we'll try something else.

I have some experience in taking care of children.
anarchydemocracy: (and I won't lie)

I suppose it isn't entirely necessary. We are capable of reducing the food to a more manageable state with our hands, but it may help it psychologically to be provided a more natural means of feeding.
unquailified: (They’ll tell your mom)

Hmm. Perhaps we should follow Miss Haunt's naming scheme for Vanara and pick a name out of mythology?
anarchydemocracy: (you ready?)

[personal profile] anarchydemocracy 2015-08-20 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Behaviorally, from what I know of phoenixes, they tend to be capricious. It is something we may need to watch out for.
unquailified: (like the sunrise but at 2 pm)

I see. Do you happen to know anything else potentially useful?

Children such as yourself?

[ or are we talking human children here? ]
anarchydemocracy: (yeah - it controls through the brain)

[personal profile] anarchydemocracy 2015-08-20 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
For the purposes of the game, I am assuming that this is truly a child, but due to their nature it is possible that a phoenix which appears to be young is not young at all. Their life cycle involves aging to the point where they are consumed by their flames and begin to smoulder, before being reduced entirely to ash -- at which point they are reborn.

If it begins to seem sickly or aged, this may simply also be part of its natural life cycle, and no cause for alarm.
