( your squad captain, a young elven man, leads you into a hut with a "⏁" symbol above the door and all of the tapestries and flags are RED. on the table there are several weapons laid out onto a table. there are swords and shields, bows and arrows, and magic staves. )

Before you explore the village, decide on how you wish to arm yourself. This is a warzone and I suggest you not go unarmed, but you must all be unified on your decision.

But... But that makes no sense! The entire point of having a party is so that you can have balance and a variety! Why would you just... give everyone the same weapon?

I guess so? I mean, it wouldn't make sense to all take the same thing...

Companies very often were unified in their weapon choice - a company of swordsmen, a company of archers... there's balance between the ranks, but small companies often ha only one type.

I don't either. But take something anyway. You'll need it.

Then, for the time being, I'd like to go with the staff. I mean, I've got experience fighting with a sword, but not with a shield, so I won't be able to fight properly like that. Magic I think I can figure out at least, though.
