You are on a spaceship.

Most of your time will be spent on the bridge, which is exactly as fancy as you’d expect it to be — it looks a little like this. (The chairs are super comfortable!) Your brand new artificial intelligence — which, if you investigate, you’ll find is housed in a small computer chip — has been implanted into the computer terminal on the back wall. The diagnostics readout displayed along the bottom of the screen tells you that the AI has only been outfitted with the most basic of Stability Cores, and is currently Critically Unstable.

It is the year 5256, and humanity has spread across two galaxies. Technological leaps have been massive — super powerful, prohibitively expensive AI have recently been developed, with the capacity for beyond human-like growth, development, and learning. It’s said that a single AI could be capable of managing a fully outfitted fleet of galactic class star ships. Trials are looking positive.

A small number of ships — yours included — have been selected to take part in a competitive military research project. You lucky devils! The government has given you a brand new AI of your very own, complete with a basic Stability Core and a generous grant of 1000 credits. The only downside is that … well, one SC of that calibre might not be enough to sustain the AI for long.

Sure, cat and newspaper. Also, given that the last bad game was yesterday and they've never happened so close to each other before... Should we assume that nothing serious would happen if of us donated themselves to science?

I don't know what to assume anymore. But I would say it is likely that nothing too bad will happen.

Hm. I might also suggest coming up with a way to make money. A spare core would not go amiss either.

Yeah. At worst whoever it is will probably end with a weird status effect. I can do it.

So, cat, newspaper, a core from... I would say the black market because it's cheaper. How do you want to make money? Though we should keep in mind that we can only do two things a round. I would say buy a cat and donate someone.

I missed the two actions, my apologies.

Hm. I wonder if doing something like offering ferries between planets for a price would count as an action.

However, I'm up for a cat, and then a donation. I would suggest using another team member, not us for the donation, however.

Yes. So, cat, and then donation. I think we can go one round without a new core. Besides, a donation might help in the long run.

If it is a free action, I think offering to take on ferry passengers would be acceptable as well. If not, we can work that in next round, I would say. Or another way to make money.

Henwen is going to donate an NPC crew member to further research on artificial intelligence, and also buy a cat.

You donate a member of your crew to science, and receive a lovely thank you note. A small computer chip arrives in the post shortly afterwards — a barely functioning, critically unstable AI on the edge of failure.

Your crew mate is returned eventually, as well. He has no memories after the age of three and occasionally speaks in binary code.

The cat is a hyperactive calico kitten that likes to chew on wires.

Yes. I would suggest a medium core just to be safe, unlike our last problem.

I wonder if there would be a way to fix the AI we have.

I think we should go to the black market since it's cheaper, but one of us should stay behind to make sure nobody steals the ship.

Maybe it would work better if it was one of us?
