[ You find yourself sequestered in a cave deep within Waldemar's mountain. A table and a set of chairs have been carved from the surrounding rock. Torches are set into the walls to provide light, while a faint breeze blows through cracks in the walls and ceiling to provide ventilation. There are no doors or windows to speak of.

In the center of the room are your (randomly assigned) gifts: AN ELEGANT SWORD WITH A BEJEWELED SHEATH and A VERY LARGE JEWEL.

There’s an hourglass of wrought silver embedded in the wall, with ten rubies inside. Pinned beside it is an elegant tapestry featuring lush, rolling hills dotted with sheep. You are part of THE SHEPHERDS.

Resting on the table are the following: a sheet of parchment, a quill, and a capped jar of ink. Written on the parchment is a list and three words in bold lettering:

PROTECT
TARGET
DEFEND

Oh boy. It's back to this. [Flicking his head, gonna have a positive attitude here!] What's the list say?

It's a list of role things. [Reads the list.]

And we're part of the Shepherds.

...what's a shepherd?

It's somebody who looks after animals, if I'm understanding this list right. It can also be a kind of spiritual guide, but there's already a priest on there.

Shepherd's a good profession. So we've got to choose one of the jobs and an action. Any thoughts?

Well, I do like the idea of protecting others and it could be a lot of points.

But we also don't know who might need it or not...

We could defend this round and see if we get stats or anything at the end?

So...really we don't know enough to make an informed decision. Is that what you're saying?

Basically. At this point, we might as well be choosing at random who needs protecting, or to even be stolen from. If we can at least see if we'll get info, it might make it easier, and this way we won't lose our stuff in the meantime?

I'm okay with defending. But we can ask questions, can't we? I'm not sure I get the game.

How many rounds is this game?
What types of wins are there? Is it most points, most successful actions, holding onto your original items from the start? How many wins and what are the parameters.
Do the items or roles each team has represent them?
If not, is there a way to know which team is which or do we have to play the whole game blind?

...That's all I can think of for now. Do you have anything you wanna add?

I'm not sure how much they'll actually tell us, but that pretty much covers most of the stuff. Hey, dragon dude! You willing to answer any of that?

There will be five rounds.

I shall not reveal all of my chosen criteria for victory, for the sake of challenge, but accumulating either the most points or the largest number of gifts are two promised paths to success. As ten teams have gathered, half of that number at most will be crowned winners.

The items and roles were chosen at random. and no.

I... think we should try to protect. Even if we're successful only 2 out of 5 rounds and lose all our stuff, that's still 30 points that can't be taken from us.
