AMALTHEA/HENWEN

RULES:

• In this game you take control of a post-apocalyptic community attempting to build itself up over the course of one year, before the mysterious Frost Shepherds arrive to end the game. The goal is to rebuild the community through creative responses, and to survive!

• Every turn represents two months. The Frost Shepherds will arrive in the second winter - You need to be prepared!

• There will be eight seasons total.

• During each turn, a player draws a card. The characters discuss which response to answer, and turn in an answer. This answer will develop what happens to the community over the years.

• You can also submit an action for the community to take every round! This shouldn't be overly complicated*, and you can't magically make up resources - You'll need to rely on what you've got, and your answers to the cards.

• Drawing a card: Every card contains information and choices you can make. Here's an online card shuffler you can use.

Only draw the suit of cards that matches the season:
Hearts = Spring
Diamonds = Summer
Clubs = Autumn
Spades = Winter.

Do not repeat cards! If you get the same card twice, re-roll.

• Failure to build defences against the Frost Shepherds, improve the community or make all resources necessary for survival abundant by the last round will land you in trouble.

*If it is, you might not like where the action goes.

Your runner is Rikki.

How about, alarming weather patterns destroy a rock that was blocking a cave full of good stuff!

She thinks we should go with ghosts.

Ghosts aren't a food.

But they can lead us to food!

[You two.]

More likely, a storm would divert a river...even if it causes flooding, it'll bring more fish and other prey animals to the area, wouldn't it?

[personal profile] foxpas 2015-01-13 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[hi mom]

Wouldn't the flood damage our village though?
queencrimson: (pic#8072746)

[personal profile] queencrimson 2015-01-13 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Not if we've used the remains of the fortress as a way to block the waters.

[personal profile] foxpas 2015-01-13 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Shakes her head.]

Uh-uh. See, we're located in the bottom of a valley, remember? If we use the remains of the fortress to block the water, we'd basically make our village be right under a dam, and that's really dangerous, 'cause we're at the low point.
queencrimson: (pic#8036473)

[personal profile] queencrimson 2015-01-13 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
How about we divert the flood into a river? We could use that to help revitalize the farmland as well.
foxpas: (pic#8711522)

[personal profile] foxpas 2015-01-13 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's still dangerous, with us at the lowest point... We'd need channels around the village to be safe.
queencrimson: (If in the hands of gods)

[personal profile] queencrimson 2015-01-13 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Then that would be our next project, shouldn't it?
foxpas: (pic#8699918)

[personal profile] foxpas 2015-01-13 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm... That might work, as long as the flood doesn't get too intense. I think it's still better not to take a risk like that.
queencrimson: (If in the hands of gods)

[personal profile] queencrimson 2015-01-13 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm...we still need to prepare for the Frost Shepherds in winter, as well, so it may be better to use our action to explore or build defenses...

...What if a storm brought new plant seeds blown into the valley?
foxpas: (My fallback plan is a very large sword)

[personal profile] foxpas 2015-01-13 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes! They'll give us food later on if we beat the Frost Shepherds.

We need to find a way to cold-proof our buildings, too, 'cause they sound like they're gonna freeze us or something.
queencrimson: (pic#8072745)

[personal profile] queencrimson 2015-01-13 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's still spring, so we have some time. The ghosts may be the best for the card, but as for our project...perhaps we should explore to look for something we can use to help the village?
foxpas: (pic#8717265)

[personal profile] foxpas 2015-01-13 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nods.]

We need to start more immediate food production, too... What about a bakery?
