RULES:

• In this game you take control of a post-apocalyptic community attempting to build itself up over the course of one year, before the mysterious Frost Shepherds arrive to end the game. The goal is to rebuild the community through creative responses, and to survive!

• Every turn represents two months. The Frost Shepherds will arrive in the second winter - You need to be prepared!

• There will be eight seasons total.

• During each turn, a player draws a card. The characters discuss which response to answer, and turn in an answer. This answer will develop what happens to the community over the years.

• You can also submit an action for the community to take every round! This shouldn't be overly complicated*, and you can't magically make up resources - You'll need to rely on what you've got, and your answers to the cards.

• Drawing a card: Every card contains information and choices you can make. Here's an online card shuffler you can use.

Only draw the suit of cards that matches the season:
Hearts = Spring
Diamonds = Summer
Clubs = Autumn
Spades = Winter.

Do not repeat cards! If you get the same card twice, re-roll.

• Failure to build defences against the Frost Shepherds, improve the community or make all resources necessary for survival abundant by the last round will land you in trouble.

*If it is, you might not like where the action goes.

Your runner is Cycles.

The body of water would presumably have to be another lake, or perhaps even a sea.

A large lake would likely provide both some form of animal and fresh water, making it the more ideal choice, wouldn't it?
endsintheocean: (and I can't keep it to myself)

It would, yes. Depending on its location, it could also make transport easier if we took the time to build some boats.

We already have a lake from the beginning though. The one with the kraken.

It could be a river for transportation.

....they could also be hotsprings. We're in a valley, would have mountains around.

That would be some river, to count as a large body of water. Still, that does seem like a better idea, and may safeguard our lake from drying up later.
endsintheocean: (yeah I'm gonna see the stakes)

[personal profile] endsintheocean 2015-01-13 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose it could count if it spans the entire valley. I think that would be the most useful option.

[Nods.] It'd probs be a good idea to run the whole valley from the opposite direction of our homebase. Less chance of floodin'.
endsintheocean: (transfiguration's going to come)

That sounds good.

What should we do for our action? Start building boats so we can take advantage of the river?
thevoidsdarkhorse: (Now let me think)

[Nods.] Boats would be good. Better to be able to move than being stuck. Docks would be good too.

Though we should have a proper foundation for our fort on the tdl, never doubt a flash flood.

I believe we are all in agreement, then. A large river, then, providing both fresh water and trade seems the most prudent choice. I would also suggest docks before boats; better to have the mobility before the ease of use.

Yes, definitely. I believe that means we have our answer?

Looks like.

Yes, I believe so.

ANSWER:
There's a large river that runs through the whole valley from the opposite direction of our homebase.

ACTION:
We'll start building docks on the river.
