[All the teams are ushered to their own tables, secluded somewhere in the depths of the garden. There's a pot of tea (because of course there is), a bowl of fresh-picked fruit, and a messy stack of blank papers and pencils. In the very center of the table is another piece of paper, this one with a very simple set of instructions written across the top.]
• As a team, create a list of story elements. This list must include:
-A setting -A hero -A villain -An object -A one-sentence quote
• General elements are usually better than overly-specific ones. No gaming the system! (Yeah, I'm looking at you, smartass.)
• That's it.
• So get goin' already!!
[OOC: You have 1 hour (7 PST/10 EST) to submit your list.]
We can do that. But let's not let this turn into a story for Rotten... I don't think that will go over well here.
Why don't I come up with the hero and the villain, and I guess the setting. Then you can come up with the object and the quote? I think that will be the hardest part, so I don't want to screw it up.
[The paper with your list suddenly rolls up and disappears in a tiny puff of smoke. After a moment, another paper appears and drops on the table in its place, unrolling itself helpfully to reveal a new set of instructions.]
• Write a short story using the following elements:
-The place: Forest -The hero: The Spirit Caroline - A ghostly woman, who inhabits a suit of armor. -The villain: A figure sent from the Earth World, seeking to obtain the Victory Gauntlets (the tournament prize) to use in a war against the Sea People. -An important item: A magical flying machine. -The line: "I'll never forgive you!!!"
• Stories will be judged by the other teams on the basis of both creativity and quality.
• So if you can't be good, ya' can at least try to be weird!!
[OOC: You have until 10 PST/1 EST to submit your stories! Have fun!]
Well, I think it's perfectly fine to have the villain announce his elaborate backstory, then have the hero shout "You made us listen through all of that?! I'll never forgive you!!!"
Once upon a time, in the middle of a forest, there was a brave woman named Caroline. Once upon a time, she was a brave knight, clad in heavy plate armor, prepared to defend her country. However, at this time, she was...
"I can't believe I still haven't found the exit to this forest! I've been in here for centuries now!"
Completely lost, as you can see. On her journey to what should have been the greatest battle of her life, she tripped and wound up falling off of a cliff. The sheer weight of her armor caused her death almost instantly, but her spirit lived on, desperate to join the battle to help protect her kingdom. Even long after her body rotted away, she continued inhabiting the armor, searching for a way out of the forest. That day, much like any other day, she continued wandering the forest looking for a way out, however, something strange happened.
A bright flash of light appeared in front of her, and a man appeared, along with a strange machine.
"Looks like the transfer was a success, then. Now then, let's see if this tracker can find the Victory Gauntlets, and..." He cut himself off, noticing the armored figure in front of him.
"You appeared out of nowhere. Are you a magician? What is this strange machine?"
"No no no, this is all science. This machine's called a helicopter, it's capable of flying in the air and---"
"A flying machine? That kind of thing can't exist without magic!"
"I'm telling you, this is all science---"
"Truly, a powerful magician! Can this thing truly escape the confines of this accursed forest?"
"It can, but before that, I need to get something called the Victory Gauntlets."
"Oh, you mean that thing we put up as a tournament prize every 50 or so years?"
"Wait, you know where it is?"
"Well, it's mostly just a symbolic prize, so after a while it ends up going back to our King. I'm not sure how much time passed since I was stuck in this forest, but... The king should probably have it?"
"Then, I have to go assassinate the king and steal his gauntlets. Thank you, random armored person!"
"The name's Caroline, and-- What did you say?!"
As the man quickly attempted an escape with his magical flying machine, Caroline grabbed the leg-like stands at the bottom of the machine, weighing it down while she struggled to climb into it.
"What do you think you're doing?!"
"I could say the same to you, how dare you think about attacking my king?!"
"Well, it's not like you can stop me. You just stay on there and wait until we're not surrounded by trees, I'd rather not crash this thing."
And so, the magical machine floated into the skies, leaving the forest deep below them all, while Caroline, with her armor, continued climbing the machine, eventually reaching inside.
"I'll never forgive you!!! How dare you plot to assassinate my king?!"
"Like I said before, you can't stop me. But you're still kind of threatening, so..."
The man pulled out a strange object, and fired it at Caroline's head.
"This is an armor-piercing round. There's no way you would survive that."
However, Caroline showed no reaction whatsoever.
"How could this be?!"
"I'm a ghost."
"Oh."
From there, it turned into a contest of strength, and let's be realistic: In a battle of strength between a totally-not-a-magician from another world and a mass of sentient ghost steel, the ghost steel wins. And thus, Caroline threw the would be assassin out of the machine, shouting the words:
"Why didn't I think of packing a parachute?!"
Wondering what the words meant, Caroline didn't realize that the machine needed someone to pilot it. As such, it crashed brilliantly, and in a large explosion, it turned into scrap metal. As Caroline pulled herself out of the wreckage, she looked around, largely unharmed.
"Look! There's a road! I should be able to follow it!"
And so, Caroline, for the first time in centuries, went home.

There's no way to really strategize in a game like this, so what we choose doesn't matter much, does it? It's just what we do with it.

...completely predictable, really. [SIGH.]
Where should we start...?
Re: DISCUSSION
Let's see, I suppose we should explain why a ghostly woman inhabiting a suit of armor is wandering in a forest.
