[All the teams are ushered to their own tables, secluded somewhere in the depths of the garden. There's a pot of tea (because of course there is), a bowl of fresh-picked fruit, and a messy stack of blank papers and pencils. In the very center of the table is another piece of paper, this one with a very simple set of instructions written across the top.]
• As a team, create a list of story elements. This list must include:
-A setting -A hero -A villain -An object -A one-sentence quote
• General elements are usually better than overly-specific ones. No gaming the system! (Yeah, I'm looking at you, smartass.)
• That's it.
• So get goin' already!!
[OOC: You have 1 hour (7 PST/10 EST) to submit your list.]
[The paper with your list suddenly rolls up and disappears in a tiny puff of smoke. After a moment, another paper appears and drops on the table in its place, unrolling itself helpfully to reveal a new set of instructions.]
• Write a short story using the following elements:
-The place: A city -The hero: A scholarly underdog. -The villain: Dragon -An important item: The Victory Gauntlets, wreathed in mystic legend that claims they grant the wearer impeccable fighting ability. -The line: "You sure seem crabby, did I hit a soar spot?"
• Stories will be judged by the other teams on the basis of both creativity and quality.
• So if you can't be good, ya' can at least try to be weird!!
[OOC: You have until 10 PST/1 EST to submit your stories! Have fun!]
Setting: Somewhere cold but not frozen, with flowers and forests and stuff Hero: Scientists Villain: Frost representing the inevitable death of all humanity etc etc Object: Telescope Quote: "People like to invent monsters and monstrosities, so they seem less monstrous themselves."
Maybe the scholar could have a sassy sidekick and they could be the one to fight the dragon with their gauntlet things? I mean, if he's super smart he shouldn't be super physically powerful, that's like - unfair.
'The City-State of Miranda had enjoyed peace for hundreds of years. Crime was virtually nonexistant. Arts and Scholarly pursuits flourished. But that all ended in a rain of dragon fire."
As the monster brought chaos to the city, it seemed as though they had nowhere to turn. Before long, though, it came from the place they least expected; a scholar. His studies had told him of a noble weapon that lay lost underneath the city, waiting for a sharp mind to uncover them.
The scholar had discovered an entrance to the ruins underneath the city, but realized that he alone was not prepared to face any potential dangers that laid within. Fortunately, his scribe, much more physically robust than he himself, agreed to come with him and help him search for the treasure that laid within.
The path was rife with danger, but the scholar knew that his time to be brave had come at last. With his companion by his side, he dodged traps and tricks for hours before he came to the door behind which the legendary weapon could be found. Inscribed upon the door were the following words:
"What goes on four legs in the morning, two legs in the afternoon, and three legs at night?"
The scholar paused to think. Such a riddle must have another meaning, for even in his years of study he had never heard of such a creature. He thought on it briefly, before the answer came to him.
"A man. As a baby, he crawls upon all four, as an adult he walks on two legs, and once elderly he uses a cane."
The letters inscribed upon the door shimmered, as the crevice between the two sides of the doors creaked, dislodging dust that had settled in over hundreds of years. Beams of light broke through gap as it widened, the door opening. The radiance was almost blinding as it filled the chamber the two were in, but when their eyes adjusted to the light, they saw before them the treasure they sought.
Quick as could be, the two took the mighty gauntlets of power, each equipping one gauntlet. With this mystical item at their disposal, they fought. With the newfound confidence the scholar had gained, he lobbied insults at the dragon as it grew weaker and angrier. "What's the matter, did I hit a soar spot?" he joked at one point. Their victory was complete, and they went down in history as the heroes that the land deserved.
Also their names were Silver and Obsidian and they were totally gay.
