An expression. The idea is that companionship and bonds make us who we are, and one is weaker for forsaking them.

Betrayal is never easy to deal with, but I think that overall someone is stronger for having bonds than forgoing them for the risk of betrayal.
I won't deny you have a point, but I do not think it's enough of a tipping point.
