... but in what would appear to be a thick, lush forest. Around you as far as you can see are massive trees with canopies that blot out the sky. The hum of bugs fills the air. It's hot, or at least considerably warmer than it was on top of the mountain, but not oppressively humid, at least.
Looking to your left, you can see the forest begins to clear out. Looking to your right, you can see that the forest appears as dark and thick as where you are now. It is also possible that you can choose a member of your party to climb a tree to check to see which way you should go. Or maybe you could check out your perimeter on foot?
Climb a tree. Choose the left path. Choose the right path. Check out the immediate area on foot.
You've found a bunch of large sticks (perfect for walking) and stones and some mulch (dried dead leaves and moss), but not much else. There's nothing particularly special about them, but you could choose to take them with you. What will you do?
Either you're terribly unlucky or you don't know much about climbing trees. Either way, as you make your way toward the top, you here the sound of a loud SNAP and suddenly you're plummeting down, down down toward the ground.
The path is dark as you go along, with only the rare shaft of light making it through the dense canopy overhead, and it's possible that you may find it difficult to keep your footing: thick tree roots and rocks impede the way, making it difficult to proceed.
Deep into your travels, there is a soft rustling sound in the thick bushes to your left, followed by a snapping sound.
Investigate the sounds in the bushes. Ignore the sounds and continue forward.
You decide to ignore the sounds. Continuing, you find a very large, dead tree--or what remains of it, anyway. It's a stump by now, covered in what looks to be a green moss. The other trees around it are too thin to support your weight should you choose to try to climb them for a better vantage point, but something tells you that you've reached another "fork in the road" despite there not even being a proper walking path.
Investigate the tree. Go left at the tree. Go right at the tree.
Your hike is a very long one, but it's very clear that your are slowly but surely ascending. Even better, it's a gradual enough climb that it's pretty much entirely safe from falling. It's too soon to tell for sure, but this is probably the right way.
Along the way, you see a couple of wild goats. They look up as you approach.
Your objective is clear, though the way itself isn't always. As you continue your ascent, you past through those low lying clouds that you saw above beofore. Visibility will become drastically decreased in some places and the going much, much slower, but you're almost there.
Within the dense mist, you may catch glimpses of more of those goats from before at a distance going about their business. If you watch carefully, sometimes their movements will help steer you along an easier path. Or you could technically quit, if you're too tired...
After what was in fact a very long, very hard climb, you've made it to the top of the plateau mountain. It's much cooler up here than it was so far below, and there's a large pool of clear, cold, water for you to quench your thirst on as you wait for the echo to show.
