Most of your time will be spent on the bridge, which is exactly as fancy as you’d expect it to be — it looks a little like this. (The chairs are super comfortable!) Your brand new artificial intelligence — which, if you investigate, you’ll find is housed in a small computer chip — has been implanted into the computer terminal on the back wall. The diagnostics readout displayed along the bottom of the screen tells you that the AI has only been outfitted with the most basic of Stability Cores, and is currently Critically Unstable.

It is the year 5256, and humanity has spread across two galaxies. Technological leaps have been massive — super powerful, prohibitively expensive AI have recently been developed, with the capacity for beyond human-like growth, development, and learning. It’s said that a single AI could be capable of managing a fully outfitted fleet of galactic class star ships. Trials are looking positive.

A small number of ships — yours included — have been selected to take part in a competitive military research project. You lucky devils! The government has given you a brand new AI of your very own, complete with a basic Stability Core and a generous grant of 1000 credits. The only downside is that … well, one SC of that calibre might not be enough to sustain the AI for long.

[Despite some initial internal struggle, the Tiamat came to a decision- they need more time.

As such, they head out to the black market, using Callie's worldwise (and streetwise) ways to negotiate for a high quality black market core, knowing that her abilities will mean that she won't get ripped off or cheated.

And then, because this is Callie, she proceeded to also buy them weaponry from the same source, with Ochre and Sabre as backup to make sure that no one gets any ideas.

Of course, they make sure to tightly lock their ship while they're away, so no one can get in.]

[Since the core was a bust, Callie and her young, impressionable charges go back to the black market and insist on a full refund- with interest.

That is to say, they show up with their weapons and rob the place, if the owner isn't going to hand over the goods willingly.

Now that they've gotten their goods, they'll go to a different black market (there's always more than one) and sell off anything that isn't weapons, armor, or cores.]

You successfully manage to rob the black market, gaining 2 medium quality and 1 high quality core of questionable efficiency in the process, along with a few useless trinkets and knick knacks. Unfortunately, your getaway is not clean. Some of you sustain injuries: Sabre is "shot" in the shoulder and Callie suffers "gash" on her leg, which really only means that both of them now have blotches of harmless red paint splattered across their skin and clothing where the "injuries" are. It's bright red paint. It doesn't even look a little bit like blood. And, obviously, it does not hurt.

You manage to sell the rest of your items in another black market for 300 credits.

One of your medium quality cores and your high quality core are genuine and succeed in stabilizing your AI! The other medium quality one, however, glitches and sparks when you attempt to use it. When the smoke dies down, it proves to be a low quality core that may not be functional after that power surge. . .

With each ship taken down, Ed will be petitioning the government for bounties, because if there's such a thriving black market in this sector, surely the government's willing to pay to see it dismantled.]
