Once your senses return, you realize you’re in the twisted, cavernous fuselage of a wrecked ship -- metal rises above you for what may be miles, exposed pipes and now-useless control panels, and strange bulbs that line the walls as far as the eye can see. Every one of them is at least fifty feet high and fifty feet across, and dimmed in such a way that it may be hard to believe light ever flowed through them.

Your vision returns last, weaving all these pieces together in the process: you find yourself standing on the main street of a dingy Gunsmoke town. Small, squat sandstone buildings line both sides of the road (if you could call it that, as actual pavement is not present), and a large structure looms directly ahead on the horizon: another Plant, this one different in that it’s exposed to the elements, and very clearly responsible for powering the town you see around you. Two suns glint off its glass surface, and a faint trail of shimmering light leads you in that direction.
On a nearby porch, you hear the exchange of two women: “— get it fixed?”
“Do you know how much that costs? We could pool everything we’ve got and it still wouldn’t be enough!”
The first woman’s brow furrows, and she turns to look up the road, at the Plant. “How’re we s’posed to get by without it? This town’ll wither and die, just like the others.” ]
