[When the game starts you find yourselves on a platform. At least this part is pretty relaxing as it's large enough to fit a table with six (or seven) chairs around and that may be the place you want to sit at for now. There's several pieces of parchment laying on the table and a box in the center.

Of course, if you were careful you might want to pay attention to what's before you. Because immediately after the platform is a slide that ends in a pit of water? That turns into a dark forest. In what looks like a mile across is another large platform, presumably the end. Though that's all you can see right now.]

We should pick the rope, the hook, and the tent. They're the most versatile.

The first I agree with, but why the tent and not the parachute?

There's only one of each, it sounds like, and one parachute won't do a whole team much good. If we're going to need fabric later on, we'll get more from a team-sized tent.

Swan wants to ask the Echo what the sword is like, since I pointed out that many swords are little better than tools to beat things with, not cutting implements.

A hook should have a point that can help cut through things.

Are they not more pointy than edged?

If you drag the point along the surface, you can make a cut for thin things.

Not the most useful way to use a grappling hook, admittedly.

But it has that extra use, making it more versatile.

I wouldn't argue. As for the question of competition . . . [wrinkles her nose.] I'd say our biggest competition is harmful games.

I'd say Rata or Amalthea.

Let's not.

I don't think we get a choice here. No one will get hurt, anyway.

It's a less literal take on the question, but personally I'd say it's no less of a valid answer . . .

Though perhaps, "The Echoes who run harmful games" might be a better way to put it.

I still don't know if we compete against those echoes, necessarily, since I imagine they get the benefit of their game whether we win or lose.

Not our enemies.

Though I suppose if that's what it takes to spare the other teams, we could lie.

It's not a lie. Being enemies and being a force to compete against and overcome—those aren't mutually exclusive.

Though, Swan had a rather cute idea, as well. We could say that we're our own biggest competitors, as we're always striving to outdo ourselves.
