[ Because why wouldn't she have a grappling gun, you always need a grappling gun. Especially when you're going on an adventure. Doubly especially after your last adventure ended in absolute disaster. ]
[ Cats and kitchen knives, man. They're gonna run out of stuff to cook with at this rate. ]
Hopefu—
[ Aoko freezes mid-step, which, considering the fact that she was facing backwards at the time, almost sends her tripping over a branch to sprawl on her backside. She catches herself with a stumbling hop, head snapping in the direction of the sounds. ]
[ Aoko shushes, following Armin as quietly as she can through the trees. The smart thing to do when you hear ominous growling is to go in the opposite direction, but … that other sound. ]
[ She can't ignore it. ]
[ EVEN WHEN IT LEADS THEM STRAIGHT INTO A PACK OF WOLVES ]
[ Goddamnit ]
[ Part of her wants to freeze. The rest of her—the part that she listens to—wants to help whatever it is the wolves have surrounded. Carefully, as quietly as she can, she shuffles a step closer. ]
[ She's not tugging against his grip, though. Not yet. ]
But—wait, I know. [ She pauses, digging under her scarf to close her fingers around her pendant. Her voice is a low, low whisper. ] I'll shield it. [ Aoko's gotten good at shields over the past few months, practising and practising and practising. She closes her eyes, takes a breath, and concentrates on casting a small, bubble-shaped shield around the bear. BE SAFE, YOU ADORABLE FLUFFY THING, YOU. ]
The polar bear cub looks confused, and the wolves are temporarily startled.
But then they look angry and now they lunge, trying to bite and claw and push at the shield to get through it, letting out snarls and hungered grunts.
While they upset and tire themselves out with that, though, Aoko and Armin will have a moment to get a better idea of their surroundings. There's a hilly rise of land nearby, and though there's some shrubbery in the way, they'll be able to make out an entrance that leads down underneath it.]
[ She's thinking fast, fingers tap-tap-tapping soundlessly against the butt of her grappling gun. There's an entrance to … something over there, but whether it'd be a boon or a death sentence, Aoko doesn't know. ]
I could teleport in and grab it. Or one of us could teleport somewhere else and draw them off ...
[The little polar bear seems like it keeps looking over to that den, like it wants to be back there instead of out here with the scary wolves. :(
As for the wolves. They back off a little from the shield, but they're still circling, as if trying to figure out some way to get past it, be patient and it'll go away.]
Alright. [ Says it again, more confidently. ] I'll wait until you've got the bear, let down the shield, then go? [ The timing would be the hard part, she thinks. But … ]
[The wolves are immediately shocked by the sudden appearance, enough that they don't attack immediately.
Then they snarl, realize something else is trying to make off with their dinner and attack slightly-after-immediately, clawing and snapping at the shield Armin and the cub are still behind with renewed fervor.]
[ Okay, good. Okay he's got the cub, the shield's holding around the both of them for now, it's time for Aoko to play her part. She dives out of cover, cups her a hand around her mouth, and yells ]
HEY! [ Never say that a DCMK can't be as loud as fuck when they want to be. Also, that they cannot throw a rock. Sorry wolf your butt is probably going to sting from that. ] OVER HERE!
