Barghest

[The room you step into looks like it could be a miniature ballroom, complete with stained glass windows and vast, ornate mirrors.

Your team's column is set into one wall, easily accessible but as impregnable as ever. One of the mirrors may prove almost as interesting, if you can tear your eyes away from your trapped teammate. Through it, you are somehow able to see every other team's column and what is inside, though nothing beyond that.

The floor beneath your feet polished, patterned wood, inlaid with the pattern of a grand sundial in your team's colors. In the center of the pattern stands a pedestal, upon which sits a collection of colorful glass ornaments. It looks like there's room for other items, but there's nothing else to be found just yet . . . ]

[ We're breaking the black sword, and doing it without help ]

[The ornament shatters, releasing a fine mist. When it clears, you find a very nice, very sharp sword resting on the pedestal. And also a blowtorch.

Nyssa speaks up:] Your task is to remove an appendage. Arms, legs, hands, or feet, please. Should you require my assistance, you need only ask.

[ I wish we had not chosen that. ]

[chinhands]

A-are you serious?! An arm or a leg, w-we can't just...

[ but then Fenris to the rescue ]

[ He sucks in a sharp breath, his eyes widening. Then he notices the look on Sirius' face, and swallows. ]

I... I will handle this.

[ I was about to have a tantrum at the Echo so ]

—W-what? You're really going to—

If it's that or he drowns... No, I couldn't forgive myself.

[ He looks shaky and not a little nervous, but he picks up the sword. Then he turns to address Nyssa. ]

A hand or a foot, you said?

Stop! You don't need to do that—!

And my choice is to let you drown?

[ He shakes his head. ]

I cannot do that.

Choose something else! Besides—there are two options, which means the water rises in increments! I won't drown on the first round—remember, there are four of these! You can't cut off a limb every round!
