What worries me is the statement that ripping up the cards "won't slow the transformation"... It's likely that the ones who chose the cards will be protected from the cups transforming more, but they could also be taking something something worse in exchange.
The problem is that right now, we don't have a clue either way. It's a matter of risk assessment, I think. Which is more dangerous? We don't really have any way to know for sure.
