ALECTRYON

[ You find yourself sequestered in a cave deep within Waldemar's mountain. A table and a set of chairs have been carved from the surrounding rock. Torches are set into the walls to provide light, while a faint breeze blows through cracks in the walls and ceiling to provide ventilation. There are no doors or windows to speak of.

In the center of the room are your (randomly assigned) gifts: A BASKET OF FOODSTUFFS and AN ELEGANT SWORD WITH A BEJEWELED SHEATH.

There’s an hourglass of wrought silver embedded in the wall, with ten rubies inside. Pinned beside it is an elegant tapestry featuring the scene of a busy marketplace, bordered by a pattern of weighing scales and abacuses. You are part of THE MERCHANTS.

Resting on the table are the following: a sheet of parchment, a quill, and a capped jar of ink. Written on the parchment is a list and three words in bold lettering:
PROTECT
TARGET
DEFEND

Choose a role and a course of action.]

...My first instinct would be to try someone new, if only because we know each of those three has lost at least one item.

It's not much, but that's the little we do know for sure.

Makes sense. I figure there's no point going for that middle of the road stuff now - lets try someone like the knights or nobles.

Let's target the nobles, then. We'll say that our hubris has grown to the point that we're willing to steal from the top.

Plus knights could still lay down the law on us.

Yeah - if we got in a fight with our targets, we'd have a much better shot at beating nobles over knights.

They're probably too fancy to know how to fight.

They figured they'd be able to pay someone for it, and so they never learned. How convenient for us.

Considering how rich they are, I doubt they'll miss one item.

No way. Rich people care about all their stuff. It's the principle of the thing.

What if it's another cloak, one that was in the back of their closet behind the fifty other ones?

Depends how nice it is. Or what colour.

Probably average for their coats, and one of five red ones.

If you hit smart, it shouldn't be too difficult to do.
