GULGALLANA

[ You find yourself sequestered in a cave deep within Waldemar's mountain. A table and a set of chairs have been carved from the surrounding rock. Torches are set into the walls to provide light, while a faint breeze blows through cracks in the walls and ceiling to provide ventilation. There are no doors or windows to speak of.

In the center of the room are your (randomly assigned) gifts: A BASKET OF FOODSTUFFS and A VERY LARGE JEWEL.

There’s an hourglass of wrought silver embedded in the wall, with ten rubies inside. Pinned beside it is an elegant tapestry featuring musical notes interspersed with symbols from myth and legend, such as swords and grails. You are part of THE BARDS.

Resting on the table are the following: a sheet of parchment, a quill, and a capped jar of ink. Written on the parchment is a list and three words in bold lettering:
PROTECT
TARGET
DEFEND

Choose a role and a course of action.]

So we're Bards, huh?

[Well, let me figure out the best way to play it...]

Okay, the obvious goal here is to gather as many points as possible. Theoretically, targeting and protecting give the same amount of points, but that's a trick: Protecting gives you that permanently, while with targeting, you have the same amount, but 5 points can be stolen by another target. We should be protecting someone every round we can, and targeting if we run out. If we target, we should probably target someone we've protected before.

There's absolutely no point to Defending unless we're in the late game and have a large amount of items. It's basically throwing away a round for security that would be better served by giving something away.

The main question is... How should we pick out our targets? It doesn't particularly matter who we protect, as long as we avoid protecting the same person more than once.

Hmmm... I dunno. We're on the same page strategy-wise, but pickin' a target, that's the trick, ain't it...

Should we just pick a target at random and see how this round plays out first?

Then, if it's random, why don't we give this food to the Peasants?

Well, can't argue with feedin' the poor. That mean we're set for now, then?

We're set, yeah. I'll put it in.

Protect the Peasants.

If we can control what to give them, we would like to give them the Basket of Foodstuffs.

Maybe go full cliche and steal from the rich?

Re: DISCUSSION

I would prefer to wait until we don't have anything for people to steal, but why not? The rich in this situation would amount to the knights, the nobles, and the merchants.

On the other hand, if we're going to give this jewel to someone, the only ones that would find any value in it are the priests, merchants, and nobles. The blacksmiths might be able to do something with it too, but I wouldn't count on it.

[What's that? Roleplaying? Why not?]

Well, the knights can't really wipe their asses without the nobles' say-so, an' the merchants are just tryin' to get by, since they're just gonna get ripped off by taxes, so if we steal, the nobles've gotta be the way to go.

[Why not, indeed?]

Well then, we'll just have to work our music, won't we?

being a Bard is really the perfect role to do it, too. Everyone needs music, after all. Especially greedy nobles who wouldn't know culture if it kicked them in the face.

Go ahead. In the mean time, I'll work on lyrics.

[Yes, I am totally writing a song about two bards stealing from a bunch of nobles.]

And lo, did the Bards target the Nobles, and there was much rejoicing.
