GULGALLANA

[ You find yourself sequestered in a cave deep within Waldemar's mountain. A table and a set of chairs have been carved from the surrounding rock. Torches are set into the walls to provide light, while a faint breeze blows through cracks in the walls and ceiling to provide ventilation. There are no doors or windows to speak of.

In the center of the room are your (randomly assigned) gifts: A BASKET OF FOODSTUFFS and A VERY LARGE JEWEL.

There’s an hourglass of wrought silver embedded in the wall, with ten rubies inside. Pinned beside it is an elegant tapestry featuring musical notes interspersed with symbols from myth and legend, such as swords and grails. You are part of THE BARDS.

Resting on the table are the following: a sheet of parchment, a quill, and a capped jar of ink. Written on the parchment is a list and three words in bold lettering:
PROTECT
TARGET
DEFEND

Okay, the obvious goal here is to gather as many points as possible. Theoretically, targeting and protecting give the same amount of points, but that's a trick: Protecting gives you that permanently, while with targeting, you have the same amount, but 5 points can be stolen by another target. We should be protecting someone every round we can, and targeting if we run out. If we target, we should probably target someone we've protected before.

There's absolutely no point to Defending unless we're in the late game and have a large amount of items. It's basically throwing away a round for security that would be better served by giving something away.

The main question is... How should we pick out our targets? It doesn't particularly matter who we protect, as long as we avoid protecting the same person more than once.
