[slowly, the scene changes, fading in and out with various silent scenes—the baby coos pleasantly, giggling jovially when you (presumably) make faces at her; she tries to pick herself up and falls over, but she does not cry; a disagreement between you and her lead to a thoughtful discussion; the young girl carries a large laundry basket to do chores; she buys a pet bird, looking so proud for having earned the money all by herself; then the wall becomes opaque.]

[in the middle of the open doorway, a young girl the age of 10 stands, smiling at you. a bird with beautiful plumage rests on her shoulder.]

Your daughter learns to speak to animals, and she is just as kind as you'd imagine her to be. She's not sure she wants to rely on the animals to do things for her, though she knows it would be nice, because she does not want them to be in danger. Still, it's nice to be able to communicate with them, and she's enjoying immersing herself in nature more and more.

Vanilla ice cream?? For animals? Wow! She's learning new things every day! While a deer eats some vanilla ice cream and gets a clump on her nose, your daughter dips her nose purposely into the vanilla ice cream to match. Afterwards, she claims her nose is ice-cold!

I'll continue her instruction in swordplay, as before. We'll work particularly on her stamina - she has the makings of a wonderful swordswoman, as long as we work on her deficiencies.

Afterward, if she would like, I can teach her how to bake cupcakes and let her eat some as a reward.

We'll study the law and history surrounding cases like hers together. How to handle a situation in a way that the law will be on her side, that sort of stuff. After, I'll show her how to treat animals' wounds, and we'll get cinnamon buns again, with extra icing!

We're all going to have a family picnic at the park at the end of the week! Her bird can come with us, as long as she promises to be careful with it.

MORAL DILEMMA

[You find yourself in a moral dilemma. . . your daughter confides in you there is a bully in her class who is giving a hard time to a few of her classmates. She is unaffiliated with her bullied classmates, however it seems the teacher is not taking any action. She is thinking about taking on the bully herself, but the bully is also twice her size and much, much stronger than she is.

[ firstly they recommend Starly try to outsmart the bully, by talking to him and trying to subtly convince him he's in the wrong and that he ought to stop. if it seems like a confrontation is going to happen, she should stay with friends she trusts, and who she believes would help her if the bully tries to hurt her. it's important to be able to rely on your friends, after all, and if things escalate to talk to the teacher personally about it. the teacher had been willing to talk before, so they ought to be willing to talk about the situation now! if he attacks her, she's encouraged to do what she has to to defend herself and put her first aid skills to use if they're necessary.

secondly, if the above efforts fall short, then her family will try to have a talk with the boy's family about the matter to find a peaceful resolution to the issue. ]

This boy seems to be of the opinion that she's fallen for him, with how nice she is to him and how she talks to him so often. Perhaps he likes her, but she doesn't like him.

since there is no way in hell this shit is going to pursue their uninterested daughter, but flat out shooting him down would risk undoing the progress Starly had made... the family concocts a plan.

using the roleplaying skills she learned from Wren, they coach her into a sincere but dramatic scene that ought to fool a young boy; oh, she cares for him, certainly, but their romance would simply never last, not when he's a nobleman's son and she's the daughter of knights...! she's to ask him to treat their classmates kindly in her memory before the act is to end with her running home in (fake) tears, and staying home for a few days to give the impression of brokenhearted youth. ]
