Canis's heart

The moment you step through the mirror door, you seem to - slip, as if the floor were made of wax, but when you fall there is no floor to catch you; only darkness.

You fall for some time. Eventually, it feels as if you're not falling at all - but rather, floating . . . and some time after that, it almost feels as if you have no body at all. The light from which the entrance of Canis's heart is disappears quickly, and you're left with nothing - not even your own screams, if you have any; nothing seems to leave your throat, and there's no sound at all, besides. Even the rushing of wind is gone, and your own pulse seems to fade away. . .

. . . what penetrates your consciousness next is the soft sound of music. Someway or another, you find yourself on a white platform; you're dressed in plain clothes of your team color, all items gone from your person. In front of you, four stones float; all perfectly square and identical to each other. Each have images - a sword, a staff, a bow and arrow, and a sparkling circle . . . you understand what you must do.

There's a pause.

"What did you do to 'Devotion'?"

[ turning to Sirius ]

It's never best to treat feelings like that. They're precious things, worth all the time it takes to look after them properly.

Instead of pulling them up, help me take care of their injuries. They need our help.

[ clearly sparrow can deal with this better than he can so he'll just sit here and.

sshove his face against canis's shoulder. ]

"They keep hurting him though, and he doesn't know what to do about it. It's better if they're gone."

"Sirius" pauses, before speaking again. "That's not supposed to be here. But they broke ████████ and broke Devotion. I can't help them."

Devotion is unresponsive.

If he doesn't know, we'll show him. We won't let him struggle through them alone, not anymore.

[ she tries to pry his hands away from the flower, to hold it between hers. ]

They're in front of us, hurting. Even if all we can do is bandage their injuries, we can definitely help them.

Don't give up on either of them, understand?

. . 'm fine. [ he's bleeding but. ]

Jus' save Canis.

". . . If you say so. . . . I'll see what I can do for your friend. But I can't help Devotion; that's going to be stuck like that for a while."

And he plucks the flower out of Sparrow's hand, before leaving to pluck a few more. Interestingly though, it seems like there are a lot more flowers than before. . . ? All of them in various states of withered and dying, but hey, they're kind of alive there.

[ oh my god

first things first, she rips off any sections of her clothes that aren't totally necessary and starts trying to gently pull the shards from Canis' hands and wrap the fabric around them once the glass is out. ]

Don't be stupid, Mira. If you're hurt, how can you help Canis?

--don't take those from 'em. They're important.

[ snatching back at the shards no, sparrow, stop, he needs those. ]

Sirius goes about doing. . . whatever, while Devotion turns away from Sparrow, holding onto the shards even more tightly - almost as if he were trying to press them into himself.

I'm not going to take them away, I promise. I'm going to wrap them up in some of the cloth, so they'll be safe.

Is that alright?

[ she's looking at Mira while gently touching Devotion's face. ]

[ turning devotion in his arms so he's. pressed more firmly to mira's chest.

and when he speaks his voice cracks a little, on the verge of tears-- ]

I broke him.

"Those shards used to be 'the object of Devotion'."

"Sirius" sits at one of the tables, grinding the flowers together with a mortar and pestle.

"He won't let go. Those are a part of him."

[ she thinks she knows what happened without needing to ask anything else, and tries to wrap the bandages around Devotion's hands, gently so to not cause him more pain and with a murmur of "This will help you hold onto them."

she's angry now, not at Mira not at Devotion or Sirius but at whatever (whoever) was responsible for this in the first place.

Canis is hurting, Mira is hurting, and she's seeing red even while her hands tremble and she blinks back tears. ]

Mira, let me get the shards out of your arms. I'll wrap them up for Canis to hold onto, and then I- I'm going to go find the infection.

[ after a moment of silence he shifts, moves an arm out and extends it towards sparrow--but the other arm moves to hold onto devotion harder, pulls him closer, fingers digging into the flesh of his shoulder to make sure he's not going to. go anywhere or anything.

the arm he's holding out has most the shards in it--his other arm's a lot better off. ]

I wanna get rid of it.

Devotion doesn't seem particularly bothered by it. Devotion doesn't seem to be particularly bothered by anything.

"Sirius", though, looks a bit troubled.

"That'll be difficult. . . you really want to do that?"

Of course.

[ she tries to be both quick and careful while pulling the shards from Mira's arm, setting them onto a piece of her torn dress. ]

I don't care if it's hard. It's for Canis.

. . I'm gonna go.

[ sslowly moving to get himself up. ]

[ STOPPING HIM ]

No you're not.

"There are so many of you. . . "

Standing up, with a vial of weird liquid in his hand.

Lupus?

[ she's surprised enough by suddenly wolffriend that she stops in the middle of standing up ]

What do you mean?

It doesn't look like it's here, does it.

[ nnot even looking at lupus. ]

You two can go find it if it is.

We're all gonna keep going together.

"That's a good idea, I think. . . "

And he offers the vial to Sparrow.

"Have him drink this."

We'll be better off as a team.

[ she takes the vial and holds onto it tightly ]
