Canis's heart

The moment you step through the mirror door, you seem to - slip, as if the floor were made of wax, but when you fall there is no floor to catch you; only darkness.

You fall for some time. Eventually, it feels as if you're not falling at all - but rather, floating . . . and some time after that, it almost feels as if you have no body at all. The light from which the entrance of Canis's heart is disappears quickly, and you're left with nothing - not even your own screams, if you have any; nothing seems to leave your throat, and there's no sound at all, besides. Even the rushing of wind is gone, and your own pulse seems to fade away. . .

. . . what penetrates your consciousness next is the soft sound of music. Someway or another, you find yourself on a white platform; you're dressed in plain clothes of your team color, all items gone from your person. In front of you, four stones float; all perfectly square and identical to each other. Each have images - a sword, a staff, a bow and arrow, and a sparkling circle . . . you understand what you must do.

And a little ways away from him is a person in a sunhat and apron, wearing a mix of green and other colors. He. . . Kind of looks like Canis.

"It's another one of you. . . ."

[ofobedience]

[he sits up, blinks at him, expression uncertain]

Canis?

[but that's not quite right, is it]

[knighttolast]

"Ahh. . . No. This is his heart."

And besides - this person has brown eyes.

"Are you alright?"

[ofobedience]

[yeah...not canis, though the likeness is striking. cepheus takes a breath, steadies himself. the remnants of the terror he felt are slowly bleeding out of him]

I am now.

[a beat]

So who are you? What are you doing here?

[knighttolast]

"The gardener."

[ofobedience]

[well...given the scenery...]

I suppose that makes as much sense as anything else.

[knighttolast]

"Well, you did enter a person's very soul. It's not really supposed to make much sense. . ."

Like how it definitely doesn't make sense that the garden is overflowing with flowers but the gardener is pulling the flowers out rather than caring for them.

[ofobedience]

[well, that's disconcerting. And it provokes a dull twinge in him, some small shudder of emotion because he may have very few memories, may be largely unaware of who or what he is but still. the flowers. they meant something, didn't they?

they had meant something. once.]

Why are you doing that?

[knighttolast]

"There are too many of them. It's too much, so I'm getting rid of them."

[ofobedience]

How can there be too many? The don't seem like a bad thing to me.

[knighttolast]

"It's bad for the system. If there's too much, the resources will be sapped away and the soil will be unsuitable for these flowers."
