This idea is starting to sound better by the minute.

In that case, my recommendation is as follows.

Pay for food and medicine.

Steal five units of Smooshables, one for each of us.

Don't pay taxes, since this "land of opportunity" is likely corrupt, and our taxes would just line some politician's pockets.

What about housing?

We don't have enough money to get both food and housing, do we?

Unless...

We could steal some more luxuries, and resell them to gain more money. Of course, that would only be acceptable if we shared our ill-gotten gains with others in need.
