They try to herd anybody who comes through into a pit trap covered in branches and reeds. The pit is full of sticky pine resin, so even if they get out the sun should dry it.
... you don't know what a lion is? It's a big, wild cat, with fur all around its head in a big... poof. Called a mane. Erm, the males have manes. The females are sleek predators.

Trap Function: The lions (which are obviously robotic once they start moving), pursue anyone who comes near and shoot robotic bees out of their mouth at them. They attempt to lead intruders into a pit trap; a pit that is four feet deep and filled with sticky pine resin, inhibiting movement. The pit is covered with a thin layer of dirt and some branches to obscure it somewhat from view. The pine resin will harden and render someone immobile if they escape the pit but linger too long in the sun. The Lions de-aggro once people have fallen into the pit, and just sit around and snicker.
