Yeah, me too! Wouldn't that have been terrible? Three steps down the hall, and then there are spikes! I wish Ryuko-chan was here, she would have saved us all from a spiked death. But Silver can probably save us too, right?

[Eventually, your progress forward is blocked - the passage is sealed off by an elaborate metal gate. It's highly polished and, perhaps, somehow intimidating. Scrawled into the rock just before the gate is the following verse:

I CANNOT BE SLAIN BY SPELL OR SWORD
I CANNOT BE CONTENT WITH THE LARGEST HOARD
I CANNOT BE SATED, CANNOT BE QUENCHED
I TAKE ROOT IN THE SOUL AND BECOME ENTRENCHED

WHAT AM I?]

I think it's a riddle.

[Oh this is more like a game! He's all about stuff like this, but the setting and that they're doing this for Wally is still making things a little nerve-wracking.]

We can figure it out! Waldemar is our motivation! Let's just give it some thought... Do you think it's something that lives or an inanimate object? Something in the cave, perhaps? A riddle is not going to drag us down!

[He's... trying...!]

[As for the surroundings, there's only the gate in front and the crystal-lined passageway to the rear. It seems to be barren of anything else.

.....There seems to be some minor discoloration after the last line, the space between it and WHAT AM I? not quite the same shade of gray-brown.]

I don't think it's physical. If it gets into the soul, it must be a belief, or an emotion.

A belief or emotion. [He nods.] Something like courage, or maybe fear? It sounds like it's a pretty big deal of an emotion.

Do you think this has something to do with it, or just a coincidence? [He traces a finger along the discoloration.] The rest of this is too polished for this to be a coincidence. A meticulous person wouldn't have missed a spot by accident... Unless a jealous person came and tried to ruin it on purpose!

[The discoloration comes apart at the light touch; it's a layer of dried mud. Beneath what's been disturbed are a few more letters.]

It has to be something bad.

And.. no amount of material possessions will satisfy it...

I'm getting a signal! Please hold!

[Grabs a corner of his cape and uses it to wipe off the mud. Not getting his hands super dirty no way.]

Yep! This part is coming off. Very funny, thinking we would be fooled that easily!

[All the dried mud is successfully wiped away from the wall. Two additional lines are revealed.
