TIAMAT

[ Once you enter the train, it takes off...moving for only a few moments before coming to a stop in the midst of the void Delriza's realm floats in.

There's still no sign of the echo herself, but fortunately it's at this point that the rules of the game burn themselves into your mind, like you always knew what you were supposed to be coming here for. ]

Maybe, but that's not exactly what I had in mind.

What did you have in mind, then?

Where I come from, when someone dies, there's no way to bring them back. People learn how to live on and move forward, so y'know. . . maybe there's value in learning how to do that instead of grasping for a different ending.

The dead can't come back anywhere, normally... But if she can make it happen, why not try it?

Because she'll drive herself crazy with how many times she fails.

... I don't know. I... Maybe you're right, but in her position, I think I'd do the same. If I ever stopped trying, I'd never be able to stop thinking about it. "Maybe if I had just kept trying a little longer"... something like that.

And would you let yourself lose track of reality, too?

[Tilting his head back a bit, his gaze flickering up towards the ceiling in a thoughtful manner]

Everyone dies eventually, Diamond. No one can live forever. We can avoid immediate death, and we should try to save lives whenever we can, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be prepared for it when it happens.

It doesn't mean we shouldn't make the most of the time we do have, when we have it.

. . . it doesn't mean we should waste our futures with fruitless endeavors when we could be celebrating our past.

... I probably would. After all, we don't have much past or future...

[Shakes her head.]

That's not the point here, though. You're probably right, after all. I'll follow your lead.

[He nods gratefully]

. . . thanks.

I just wanna do what's best for Delriza, y'know?

I know you do. I do too, after all.
