[Daisy struggles against the shadow's influence, but eventually it comes to a standstill. Abruptly, the shadow laughs, a howling evil cackle, and turns tail to run right into one of the mirrors. A cloud of darkness surrounds the mirror, and you can hear echoes of the shadow's laughter. An aura of power surges from it, and you can imagine a battle going on inside. If the shadow isn't subdued quickly enough, it may destroy Daisy completely.

If you decide to jump through the mirror, you will find yourself somewhere else...]

[Your fingers feel cold as you shelve the book. The jolt from before comes back, as well.

The next book reads much the same--you can't understand very much of it, until you come across a particular passage:

"The name, of course, refers to the fact that magic of this type uses life, specifically in the form of blood, instead of mana. [...] Although lyrium will allow a mage to send his conscious mind into the Fade, blood would allow him to find the sleeping minds of others, view their dreams, and even influence or dominate their thoughts. Just as treacherous, blood magic allows the Veil to be opened completely so that demons may physically pass through it into our world."

There is something written in the margins, a scribble in a dark red ink: a demon is just a spirit that's lost its way. i know what i am capable of. i do not obey the demon; the demon obeys me. with strong mind and strong will, blood magic is only a tool]

[ Sparrow touches the words written in red ink, now wondering if its blood given the talk of blood magic.

she shuts the book and sets it back in place, trying to sort out the new information and how it goes together. Tevinter enslaved the elves, which destroyed a lot of their culture, which Daisy wants to try to save with the eluvian, so she's using blood magic (and maybe a demon???) to fix it...? ]

[Your hands are brimming with energy at this point. There's something strange happening to them, actually.]

[ what's happening to them? ]

[Frost is growing along your knuckles on one side, while there seems to be what looks like soot smudging your fingertips. Occasionally, a jolt of electricity runs up your arm.]

she carefully touches the frost after trying to wipe some of the soot off on her cape.

does any of it hurt? and can she tell if the frost, electricity and... whatever the soot might stand for can be used as spells? ]

[Nothing hurts--the cold is a little numbing, and the jolt gives you a tiny shock, but it's pretty mild. And yes, if you concentrate, you can feel magical energy in your hands: these are definitely spells.]

[ neat.

she's going to go take a look at the large open book now, and see if she can stop the pages from turning. ]

[You attempt to stop the rapidly turning pages on the large tome. Immediately you get a papercut. It's actually kind of nasty, and some blood drips onto the page and seeps into the book.

... but the pages seem to have slowed down some.]

Ow!

[ she winces and starts to pull her hand back... only to change her mind and leave it over the pages to bleed on it a little more when she notices it slowing. ]

[The pages abruptly stop, and open onto a blank page. Words begin to scrawl across the page, written in a suspiciously dark red ink. Like the voice, the script is obviously unfamiliar to you, but if you concentrate enough, you can understand what is written.

~~Hello. My name is Tom Riddle. How did you come by my diary?~~

[No but really.]

Who are you? What do you seek?]

[ Sparrow picks the quill up and tries to write with it - if it can't write without ink, she'll carefully dip it in her blood to write. ]

I'm Sparrow. I need to find a way through the mirror to help Daisy. Who are you?

[Blood is the way to go :'Db]

[The writing responds:]

I am a book. I am hungry.

[ blood: nature's ink ]

What do you want to eat?

[ can books eat??? ]

Anything. If you give me something good, I'll give you something good, too.

[ she hums thoughtfully for a moment before pressing her papercut against the page (it had reacted to blood in the first place after all) and writes below it, ]

Is that something good?

Yes! More!

[ uses the quill to make another shallow cut on the back of her right arm and lets that bleed onto the page too, pressing her cape over the cut when she thinks its enough. ]

[Your blood drips down into the book, and it seems to surge with power. The writing writes the word "yes" over and over for a while. Eventually, the pages start to turn over again, but at a more reasonable pace, allowing you to look through the book if you wish.]

[ and she does, looking for anything that grabs her attention ]

[You flip through the other pages of the book. There are a lot of pictures in this book, with very few words. You don't see scenes or memories, but you feel... impressions. You feel someone studying as hard as they can, reading and writing and reciting, day after day after day. Frantically memorizing history, trying to remember everything you can, using your native tongue as much as you can, because if you don't, then you're just throwing your culture away. You hear an angry voice, it spits at you, "Ma banal las halamshir var vhen!" (You do nothing to further our people.) You've heard it from your clansmen, from your friends, from the people you've fought for, the people you've worked so hard for, time and time again. They don't understand. They don't even try to understand. And then... you feel a sharp prick of anger, of snarling fury, as you vow to show them all what you're capable of. They'll see what you can do. They'll never underestimate you again. You'll show them what one elf is capable of. They'll regret ever scorning you. You want them to regret. You want them to feel guilt. You want them to fear. You want them to hurt.

The torrent of rage and bitterness quickly subsides, and the impression fades into memory, into nothingness. The pages flip back to the blank page. This is most likely the core of the shadow's power in here.]

[ it takes a couple seconds to separate herself from the anger and bitterness but she thinks she understands where it comes from.

the Keeper trying everything possible to force her to abandon her path, to make her return, the lack of faith in Daisy's strength and choices, how the other elves in her clan turned on her so quickly at the Keeper's words... and the shadow is twisting them into something darker.

on a blank page, she scribbles in blood, ]

It's not wrong to be hurt and angry at them for failing you, or want them to regret it. But don't forget why you want to reclaim your people's history: So all of you can have what was stolen from you. Even if they don't understand yet, you love them. Don't lose sight of that.

And you don't have to do it all alone. You have all of us to count on, and Hawke, and your friends back home, always.

[Something in the book seems to quiver, and the words you write down shine brightly before being absorbed. The large tome's pages begin to flutter again, faster and faster, until the book closes with an abrupt SLAM. The front cover is worn leather that was once quite fine. Intricate symbols are carved into it, some that have faded with (age?use?stains?). The title reads: Vir Solas. The whisper in the back of your mind repeats it, and you understand--The Way of Pride. Its power is now contained.

The tome then seems to shrink in size, and you find yourself drawn to the magical power it gives off.]

[ she picks up the book! ]

The darkness tendrils around the Eluvian seem to flicker and reach towards you once you pick it up.]
