RATATOSKR

[ You find yourself sequestered in a cave deep within Waldemar's mountain. A table and a set of chairs have been carved from the surrounding rock. Torches are set into the walls to provide light, while a faint breeze blows through cracks in the walls and ceiling to provide ventilation. There are no doors or windows to speak of.

In the center of the room are your (randomly assigned) gifts: AN ELEGANT SWORD WITH A BEJEWELED SHEATH and A VERY LARGE JEWEL.

There’s an hourglass of wrought silver embedded in the wall, with ten rubies inside. Pinned beside it is an elegant tapestry featuring lush, rolling hills dotted with sheep. You are part of THE SHEPHERDS.

Resting on the table are the following: a sheet of parchment, a quill, and a capped jar of ink. Written on the parchment is a list and three words in bold lettering:
PROTECT
TARGET
DEFEND

Choose a role and a course of action.]

Nice. If we can do it a second time we'll probably be in a good spot.

Good call.

We could protect the bards again? At least then the sword will out, so I don't think it could be stolen and we could get points?

Thanks. Um. Hm. Yeah, I think we could do that. Whoever tried last time might think they defended and will try again. Oh, but first--

Waldemar--
for teams that defended, do you tell them if there was an attempt to steal from them?
And for teams that were protected, do you tell them that they were protected? And if there was an attempt to steal from them, if there was?
And I guess for teams that tried to steal and failed, do you tell them if the team they tried to steal from defended or was protected? Or do you just tell them they failed?

[After a moment, his voice resounds through the cave like before.]

No.

Successful attempts are relayed to both the chosen and the instigating team, while only the would-be perpetrators are informed of failed attempts.

In the latter case, only the chosen team's status of having defended is revealed. A team that attempts to steal from another will not know if their target was protected by a third party.

Alright. Thanks. So that means only we know what we did. Trying bards again sounds good in that case. If we're lucky whoever tried the first time will be really stubborn and try a second. Or maybe someone else will now that the first round's past.

[Nods.] They might figure they won't go for it again, or pride. Or just numbers now that people know what's up.
