I don't know about that. If the benefit of the shorter path is that it moves faster, then one can only conclude that the winning conditions include "those who reach it to the nearest exit the quickest."
Items are supposed to heal any damage we take, but theoretically we wouldn't need any of those if we manage to avoid damage completely.
So if we play it quickly, and safely, then. . . we might win?
The short path involves the group veering off away from the larger central lobby, into the back areas that the cleaning staff would use; everything is cramped and dark, making it harder to move around and see. However, the exit is easy to find. The room smells like mildew and the dust is thick.

The big advantage of the short path would actually be that it's easier to stop the traps. If we took the long path, there would be 11 spots to check for traps, while on the short path, we only need to check three.
It's hard to tell how much that's worth in the long run, though.
