Now then... The question is, how do we want to do this? Do we want to try and gather up as many items as possible, or just shoot for the exit?

Shoot for. . . the exit?

It seems to me that we have a better chance on the long route.

I don't know about that. If the benefit of the shorter path is that it moves faster, then one can only conclude that the winning conditions include "those who reach it to the nearest exit the quickest."

Items are supposed to heal any damage we take, but theoretically we wouldn't need any of those if we manage to avoid damage completely.

So if we play it quickly, and safely, then. . . we might win?

Perhaps. There could be a significant element of randomness, however. It may be difficult to play conservatively.

It might be, but we won't know until we try it. Maybe we could. . . take the short path this round, and the longer ones next round?

Mm, perhaps that may be best. There is also something to say for getting this over with quickly.

Actually, I notice that we don't seem to have a maximum for most of our stats. I wonder if we can actually restore more than we have.

Oh. . . (Ack! I hadn't thought of that.)

What would the point of that be, though?

At least part of the score is based on our stat totals, so I wouldn't be surprised if we could boost it through careful play.

(She's definitely more used to this kind of competition than I am.)

You're right. . . that possibility had slipped my mind.

But we can't aim for quick play and maxing out our stats at the same time, can we? They seem contradictory to each other.

The big advantage of the short path would actually be that it's easier to stop the traps. If we took the long path, there would be 11 spots to check for traps, while on the short path, we only need to check three.

It's hard to tell how much that's worth in the long run, though.

I don't know what kind of strategy to go for, here. I'll leave that up to you.

...Well, we rolled a six. Should we just head straight for the exit, or do a little detour? We could leave now, but even with the detour, we'll only be adding one more turn. Going on the detour would have us go to 6, and then head back to 4...

I believe it would be worth taking that risk.

Ah-- what would the point of adding an extra turn be, if we're trying to get this done quickly?

Mostly to give us a chance to do something if the last step is trapped, to be honest.

"Do something?" But we don't even know what there is to do, other than collect items and possibly run into monsters. . .

If we're on the short path, the more dangerous path, I guess I feel. . . like we should go straight for the exit.

Well, we'll see how it turns out, at least. You can say "I told you so" when I manage to get us all wiped out.

Um, Diz? Why are you only tagging space four?

We don't have enough information to go on whether false leads are involved or not, and we can't spent 120 Adrenaline on the first round. So I'm trying to apply minesweeper tactics: Hopefully, the smells is just pinging the trap on space four.

(I'm not sure I understand her strategy, but she is the senior here. . . so I should trust her judgement.)
