Mostly to give us a chance to do something if the last step is trapped, to be honest.

"Do something?" But we don't even know what there is to do, other than collect items and possibly run into monsters. . .

If we're on the short path, the more dangerous path, I guess I feel. . . like we should go straight for the exit.

We don't have enough information to go on whether false leads are involved or not, and we can't spent 120 Adrenaline on the first round. So I'm trying to apply minesweeper tactics: Hopefully, the smells is just pinging the trap on space four.

(I'm not sure I understand her strategy, but she is the senior here. . . so I should trust her judgement.)

...Well, I messed up, but at least we have a vague idea how it works, now. So if there's something pinged, it's always a trap, but two pings indicates a potential false lead... Sorry about that. I shave pinged as much as I could after all.
