... but in what would appear to be a thick, lush forest. Around you as far as you can see are massive trees with canopies that blot out the sky. The hum of bugs fills the air. It's hot, or at least considerably warmer than it was on top of the mountain, but not oppressively humid, at least.
Looking to your left, you can see the forest begins to clear out. Looking to your right, you can see that the forest appears as dark and thick as where you are now. It is also possible that you can choose a member of your party to climb a tree to check to see which way you should go. Or maybe you could check out your perimeter on foot?
Climb a tree. Choose the left path. Choose the right path. Check out the immediate area on foot.
((OOC: Guess I'm starting an alternate Alectryon group? Kind of not sure I want to jump in without asking on anyone else's.))
[Climbing up a tree for one so small would be one logical idea. However, Azmuth decides to investigate the surrounding area first. Being at a lower perspective means he might be able to see something others might have missed...assuming anyone passed through here before him. At least it's significantly warmer here and he doesn't feel like he's going to freeze.]
You chose a nice, solid, sturdy tree to climb, and managed to climb all the way to the top. Congratulations! From here, you can see that to the left there is a coast line and a large body of water in the distance; to the right is a tall mountain that becomes submerged in low-lying clouds.
Go back down, now, and confer with your team to choose which path you wish to proceed along.
The path is dark as you go along, with only the rare shaft of light making it through the dense canopy overway, and it's possible that you may find it difficult to keep your footing: thick tree roots and rocks impede the way, making it difficult to proceed.
Deep into your travels, there is a soft rustling sound in the thick bushes to your left, followed by a snapping sound.
Investigate the sounds in the bushes. Ignore the sounds and continue forward.
Continuing, you find a <href="http://medias.photodeck.com/07996846-18fb-11e1-9f8e-bd4464381f98/cbpictures_20110521_088_xgaplus.jpg">very large, dead tree--or what remains of it, anyway. It's a stump by now, covered in what looks to be a green moss. The other trees around it are too thin to support your weight should you choose to try to climb them for a better vantage point, but something tells you that you've reached another "fork in the road" despite there not even being a proper walking path.
Investigate the tree. Go left at the tree. Go right at the tree.
You've reached what is obviously the slope of a mountain! Congratulations. From what you can tell, it looks like it should be nearly a straight shot to the top. However, that's literal: the rock face is quite nearly sheer. In spite of the straight-forward climb to the top, it looks like it will be very difficult. Anyone who's not in good condition certainly won't be able to make it.
Try to climb it anyway. Try to find another place to climb up.
After what was in fact a very long, very hard climb, you've made it to the top of the plateau mountain. It's much cooler up here than it was so far below, and there's a large pool of clear, cold, water for you to quench your thirst on as you wait for the echo to show.

Maybe it's better to scout a path first?
