[ and oh god, oh god she's starting to run extremely low on casts. ]
Armin, can you shield [ tugs on her pendant to illustrate how she means ] us and the bear cubs?! We might be able to think our way out of this if we have a couple of minutes to breathe!
[Better move (and breathe) fast, because the wolves are wasting no time to lunge toward those cubs and those pesky humans that keep using their weird magic to stop them.]
These things followed us through the forest, all the way down here—they kept chasing us even after we dropped those icicles on them! There's got to be something …
[ Some way to stop them. Some way to make them change their minds. ]
[ She doesn't even ask what the idea is, trusting Armin to have thought it through. Without wasting a second longer than it takes to swap her spells around, she casts paralyse on one of the wolves. ]
[And the wolf crouches down, unable to move, but is clearly trying, the way it growls lowly, angry. Something that sets off the others, one of which leaps toward Aoko while she's swapping spells, claws first.]
[Armin may in fact get clawed a little. And when Aoko goes to swing at the wolf, two of the others leap, one at her to tackle her to the ground, the other at Armin, to try and get him off its brother.
But this is a lot of racket happening in the den, especially with the baby bears still letting out frightened whines in response to the sudden movements and loud noises.
One of the stacked piles of large rocks near one of the walls of the den rattle a couple of times, and then something comes crashing through them. Something large and white and roaring.
Armin's doing his best to get the fuck off that wolf as quickly as possible, not bothering to try getting his knife back, while frantically casting shield on Aoko to hopefully stop the other wolf from tackling her.]
[ It’s all happening so fast, from so many different angles. Aoko yelps, high-pitched and frightened, when the wolf brings her down — but most of her thoughts are still for Armin; Armin, who has two to contend with; Armin, who needs help. ]
[ She whips out her grappling gun and takes aim without a second thought, firing the hook towards the head of the wolf threatening her friend. Mama bear’s dramatic appearance is registered somewhere in her peripheral, but it’s too much to focus on right now. ]
[The grappling hook hits its mark! Just barely, as the wolf is still moving so it ends up backing off Armin, pawing at a now bloodied snout.
The other wolves back off too-- or before they actually get a chance, are forced to, as mama bear rushes, large sharp claws swiping at them-- and only them for now, as if she's more used to them than the strange other creatures in the den with them.
They seem to briefly consider their odds, before she roars loudly, approaching them, and they decide they don't have very good ones, turning tail and scampering back out the way they entered.]
[Mama bear is in fact NOT in the way of the hole (which does in fact look like another way to go, probably safer than the way they came, since the wolves might still be lingering back the other way), as she goes over to her babies.
Who meet her halfway by running toward her, letting out a few small noises, a lot less worried and afraid than the ones they were making earlier. She leans down to snuffle at the one that went missing. He smells a bit different ... like these two things that are in the den with them.
She lifts her head toward Aoko and Armin, sniffing the air, staring. At least she doesn't seem as violent as she did with the wolves?
After that though, she growls, low, warning. It looks like if they don't get out, and soon, she's going to change her mind about them being perceived as a threat.]
[GOOD CALL. Polar bears have very little patience where their cubs are concerned.
The new pathway revealed seems to be a bit more straightforward than the rest of the cave. Eventually, Armin and Aoko will see a light at the end of the tunnel. And where they exit will be quite unfamiliar as it's a ways away from where they originally entered.
But they're still in the forest, so they can make their way back to the dorms from there without any hassle.]
Re: THE CENTER
[ THAT WAS UNEXPECTED. ]
It almost makes the wolves worth it!
Re: THE CENTER
As in.
The wolves that are now sauntering into the den, seeing that their lunch menu's grown?]
Re: THE CENTER
Why do they keep following us?!
[Desperately glancing around the other side of the room for any signs of a way out]
Re: THE CENTER

Re: THE CENTER
They lunge at the shield angrily, full of a determination that very much says their shielding may wear out before it does.

Re: THE CENTER
...Aoko. Can you paralyse one of them? I may have an idea.
