( red. everything's so red. from the moment you open your eyes, all you can see is the large torii that stretch their way across the stairs. you can barely the bright sunshine peeking through them or the countless trees that litter the path. just stone stairs and red paint.

while you stand there, stupidly, you notice your clothes have changed when a gentle wind blows through you, ruffling your hair and the soft fabric of your new attire. you feel . . . good? comfortable. the sun and wind feel nice against your skin.

you want to keep going. you feel like there's something waiting for you.

the question is. . . up or down? )

( as you walk up the stairs, you reach a very modest graveyard.

the first thing you notice is yukine, dressed in a long coat with fur around the hood, and who is clearly much older than what you're used to. his hair is longer too, pulled back at the neck in a tiny tuff. he doesn't notice you yet, too absorbed with pouring water over the grave stones. it seems he's also praying. )

( you have reached a simple crosswalk. there are buildings all around you, but they have no doors. there are only black windows that you can't see into. they seem painted on? you feel unsettled by being here. something sick in your stomach. why is it so empty?

there's nothing but a bus stop here. there's a vending machine behind it with the words "TASTY COFFEE" across its face, but you can't see anywhere to insert money. just this tiny slit that must be for something else? above the slit flashes the number "3". beyond that, there's just buttons and a slot for something to come out. on the inside of the bus stop, there's a very small list of locations with some hastily scratched out:
park
riverside
home
mansion
????

there's also a big red sign stating "BUS ROUTE CLOSED". guess you're only getting around by foot, huh?

oh, but then again, there's also someone very strange waiting here. )

[ this is vaguely familiar and weirdly disturbing. he rests the replica swords on his shoulder, like that's comforting to him in some way.

he'll try to get a peek at the stranger waiting here with him, first. is it the same dude as last time? ]

( you know you have walked a great distance to get here, but it feels like you were able to do within a matter of seconds. weren't you just somewhere else? but if you look behind you, you can only see a long stretch of road.

ahead of you, however, is a small house. there's nowhere to go but in. )

( the winding staircase takes you to the top floor of the home.

most notably, you see an epona blue door. there's also a shelf packed full of items, and rows of unlit gas lamps along the walls. )

{BLUE ROOM}

( you find yourself. . . in epona's common room. it's a wide, open room that combines the lounge, kitchen, and dining room, with the centre dominated by a large nest covered in pillows. maybe you've been here before or maybe this is the first time you've been here, but you feel weird as you step inside.

like some sort of fake. is this where you're supposed to be? you're honestly not sure.

by the nest bed, you see boxes, a sweaty tracksuit, a small altar to a goddess, and. . . a hole in the wall. )

none of these things immediately jump out at him as places to hopefully dispose of tainted rings, so he'll check out the boxes first.

{PARK}

( the sun starts to set once you reach the park, painting the skies bright pinks, yellows, and oranges. street lamps are starting to turn on, casting their bright orange glow onto the ground to guard away from the oncoming darkness. not that it seems to help fight against the deep chill that races up your spine. you look around and see nothing but a normal park, but. . . there's something unsettling here.

you hear laughter in the distance.

an eyeball opens on the trunk of one of the trees.

it's getting harder to breathe.

the sky is getting darker and the laughter is getting louder. )

It feels awful. Horrible. No wonder Yukine hates the darkness, if this is all he feels--and the kinds of things he associates with it.

she's scared. really scared. maybe she should leave?

but if this place is here, then there's a reason. there has to be a purpose. something that needs to be done. ... it probably has something to do with that eyeball, or that eerie laughter.

{RIVERSIDE}

( as you walk down the sidewalk, time starts to blur together until you cannot remember just how far you have walked. your legs feel tired, but you were just elsewhere only a moment ago even if you feel as if you have walked for quite some time. you stop by a nice spot by the river where the cherry blossom trees are in full bloom and there's even a nice set of stairs to take you down closer to the river.

it's beautiful.

there's one cherry tree that catches your attention because it's so much brighter than the rest. you also notice there are baskets laid across the stone pathway beside the river, each one of them in. . . very familiar colours? blue, purple, magenta, cream, yellow, bright green, green, and baby blue.

there's also shards of a broken mirror in the grass. )

( as you travel towards the unmarked area, the sky grows darker and darker until you're struggling to see what's in front of you. the stars provide you with some light to keep moving forward, but it's only just barely enough.

fear seizes you. it's dark, it's dark, it's dark.

you see withered trees, tree, trees, and so many more trees. and. . . stairs.

there's no where else to go but up them. )

[Still, the stars are a comfort, and this sort of night sky darkness feels natural--safe and familiar, like an old shawl draped over her shoulders to keep her warm. She proceeds up the stairs, to see what's at their end.]
