In its single-minded pursuit, it doesn't even realize that it's being targeted until it's too late: Vash's shot to its left wing is dead on, and the limb dissipates in a gooey mess. The bird falls even as Silver is launching himself at the enormous monster, striking it dead in the chest. It clearly wounds the creature—unfortunately, he's going to be feeling the effects of blight as well. It's still "alive," thrashing around even down a limb, trying to get its beak or a talon into some flesh, but it's obviously much easier pickings now.
