[You exit the parlor through a doorway in your team's color and find yourself in some kind of entry hall. Aside from the one behind you, there are four doors - one on each of the side walls, and two opposite the entrance - each with an image carved into it. They're a bit hard to make out, however, since only one torch on the far wall is lit, lending the place a gloomy atmosphere. What you can see is that the room, once richly decorated, is now a mess; the walls are covered in peeling, royal purple wallpaper, and great swaths of the ceiling are coated with sticky cobwebs. The floor is covered with large marble tiles, inlaid with some kind of swirling design in glittering gold - but sadly, it too is out of shape. The tiles seem to shift a bit under your weight, and some of them are even missing altogether.

If you try the doors you'll find that all of them are locked, and no amount of manhandling can get them to budge.]

[OOC: This game is a treasure hunt/dungeon crawl! Your characters will be exploring the rooms they pass through and facing different challenges in each one. Some rooms will be exploratory, others will have specific rules! The goal is just to reach the end. Teams will be scored on things like teamwork, cleverness, creativity, etc.

Skills are ON, but there will be penalties if you mess up Knut's castle. He lives here, you know!]

[he happily accepts your pets, moving his ears under her hand]

Well...you know, there is something you guys could do for me. You'd have to risk running into Angel, though.

What is it?

I haven't been able to run around at all since that demon came to live here. No one pays attention to me anymore! And that means I haven't had any treats in days. I'd do anything for just one piece of cheese!

I'm stuck in here, but you can move around all you want. If you get me some cheese, I think I can help you out.

[He points far across the room where the doorway to the kitchen can be seen.]

Alright, I'll see what I can do!

[ confident!! ]

Oh, by the way, do you know what this is?

[ showing him the little copper wedge ]

Hey, yeah! I know that thing, I got one of them too! Mine's bigger than yours, though.

He scurries over and pushes away some straw, revealing that he does indeed have another copper wedge, about the size of a (human) paperweight.]

I didn't know what it was for, but it was shiny so I definitely had to have it. You collecting 'em or something?

Something like that.

[ she eyes it thoughtfully. ]

...Anyway, I'll be back with some cheese for you soon, so sit tight!

So, we're getting cheese too?

Yep! We'll need to go across the room, so we should take some paperclips in case we need to chase Angel off.

Now let's find a way down. Preferably one that isn't a straight drop.

[ INVESTIGATE THE EDGES OF THE DESK? ]

[It's a pretty big drop for a little rat, but there's a drawer you can pry open. Maybe there's something in there that will help.

Alternately, there's a trashcan on one side that would cut the distance in half if you use it as a step to the floor. Or you can try using what's on the desk to help you.]

[ let's investigate that drawer... trying to pry it open! ]

[Congratulations, the desk is full of tons of random shit. Mostly more papers and various office supplies, like tape, a stapler, and glue, as well as a hardback book, a box of matches and a rubber band ball.]

[ ...she'll try to get the tape out, and if that's possible, she'll also try to get the book out!

she only has the wisest plan possible, i assure you. ]

[The book is really heavy for such a tiny rat! But you manage it, and the tape comes along as well.

What are you planning...]

[ well for starters, she is going to remove the roll of tape from the dispenser. then she is going to determinedly attach a respectable length of tape to the table edge and heave the book on top of that length of tape.

then she will unroll an ungodly amount of tape and start lowering the ring of tape over the table edge... down, down, down... until it hopefully either a: reaches the floor or b: gets close enough to the floor she can jump.

[You get a strange sense that someone out there approves of your methods! The tape roll easily reaches, hitting the floor with a small clatter.

A clatter that echoes through the room, and is followed by a sudden shuffling noise, and a soft, distant:]

Meow?

[ damn. Sparrow will straighten out a paperclip and bite it between her teeth so her hands will be feel to grab the tape and climb down.

i have a pointy paperclip. bring it on, cat. ]

[There's no sign of the cat...yet. But it's a good idea to stay on guard. Down the tape you go!

Once on the floor, the door to the kitchen is straight ahead. To the left, a couch and an end table. To the right, the door, a TV, and a recliner facing it.

How will you proceed?]

[ ah, her feet are on the floor! excellent. she takes her make-shift sword in hand and starts walking... straight ahead, darting across the open floor.

this is actually pretty exciting...! ]

[It’s a bold strategy, let’s see if it pays off for her.

You pitter-patter across the floor, heading straight for the doorway without fear! The atmosphere is tense, but as you make it halfway across without incident you start to let down your guard. This seems easy enough...you're almost there now...

A mere foot from the door, a fuzzy black face suddenly peeks around the corner, eyes fixed right on Sparrow.]

Mew?

[ that was going to be much too easy, she's... almost glad for the excitement. ]
